(Apple)
Updated G4 PowerBooks for less money: Compared to the last generation the new G4 PowerBooks got a clock speed upgrade of 167 MHz each (1.5 or 1.67 GHz that is). All models come with 512MB of memory installed; harddisk size has been up'ed by 20GB in some configurations (max. 100GB); the new "Sudden Motion Sensor" is to protect a running harddisk in case the PowerBook is falling to the floor. The notebooks with SuperDrive now get DVD±RW burning support (previously DVD-R). The 17" model gets 128MB graphics memory and a dual-link DVI port (both optional in the 15" machines), the dual-link port allows to feed an externally connected 30" Cinema display (for example), whose resolution is too big for a single DVI channel. Instead of Bluetooth 1.1 the 3x as fast version 2.0+ EDR is integrated (Enhanced Data Rate, up to 3 Mbit/s). All 15" and 17" models get the (now brighter) backlight keyboard. The TrackPad now supports scrolling if you use it with two instead of one finger. The 17" PowerBook G4 sports combined digital/analog Audio IN and OUT. Apple hat dropped the prices by up to 200 US$ / 280 EUR. (Apple)

(Intel)
New chipset for Intel Centrino: Intel has introduced a new chipset for their Pentium M and Celeron M processor families. The "Mobile 915" (codenamed "Alviso") is bringing the technologies PCI-Express, DDR2 memory and the Serial-ATA bus interface to mobile computers. The Front Side Bus (FSB) has been accelerated from 100 to 133 MHz base clock rate, which ends up in 533 MHz according to Intels "quad-pumped" calculation scheme (two channels with Double Data Rate, 133 MHz x2 x2) -- the Celeron M however keeps running on a 100 MHz (x2 x2 = 400 MHz) bus (chipset i915GML). Per channel up to 1GB of memory can be addressed, it supports both DDR and DDR2 modules. The "Advanced Graphics Port" (AGP) is now replaced by the "PCI Express for Graphics" (PEG) bus. No change has been maded to the WLAN module, like before it supports the standards IEEE 802.11b/g resp. IEEE 802.11a/b/g (modules Calexico resp. Calexico 2).
The new Pentium M processors supporting the faster FSB533 are still based on the "Dothan" core (0.09µm, 2MB onchip L2 cache) and available at clock speeds of 1.6 to 2.13 GHz. A Low Voltage (LV) version clocks at 1.5 GHz and an Ultra Low Voltage (ULV) processor at 1.2 GHz, there two CPUs are designed for a power consumption of 10 resp. 5 Watts, while the regular Pentium M processors are designed for 27 Watts.
(Apple Xsan)
Faster Xserve G5: Apple has updated its Xserve rack server systems. In the dual processor machines the two PowerPC 970/G5 CPUs are running at 2.3 GHz clock speed each (previously 2.0 GHz), the Front Side Bus is still clocked at half the CPU frequency (now 1.15 GHz for each CPU) and can transfer up to 9.2 GB/s of data.
Additionally Apple has released its Xsan solution. The Storage Area Network sells for US$ 999 / EUR 969 per client and server. (Apple Xsan)
