| Neuigkeiten aus der Keynote der Macworld Expo San Francisco: Während der SDK für das iPhone erst im nächsten Monat erscheinen soll, gibts wenigstens schon einmal neue Firmware für Apples Handy: Version 1.1.3 beinhaltet die Landkarte mit Ortsbestimmung (via Sendeturm-Signaltriangulation (von Google) kombiniert mit WiFi Hotspots (zusammen mit Skyhook Wireless), somit also ungenauer als GPS), Webclips (Internet-Bookmarks als Icon direkt im Hauptmenü, maximal 9 Stück), Lyrics, verschickt SMS an mehr als einen einzigen Empfänger, und der Home Bildschirm ist jetzt anpassbar. Für den iPod touch gibt es fünf neue Anwendungen (auch als Upgrade für bereits verkaufte iPod touch, US$ 20): Mail, Stocks, Notes, Weather und Maps (mit WiFi Ortsbestimmung). Der iTunes Store bietet jetzt auch Mietfilme an (Movie Rentals), die 30 Tage nach dem Erscheinen der jeweiligen DVD erhältlich sein sollen (vorerst in den USA, international später dieses Jahr). HD-Filme kosten US$ 4.99, Neuerscheinungen US$ 3.99, die älteren Filme US$ 2.99 -- gemietet wird für 30 Tage, hat man den Film aber gestartet muss er innerhalb von 24 Stunden zu ende geschaut werden.
Time Capsule ist eine Airport Extreme Basestation mit eingebauter Harddisk (500GB oder 1.0TB, US$ 299 bzw. 499), also sozusagen ein Router mit NAS (Network Attached Storage). Damit dürfte die "Time Machine" Backup Lösung von Mac OS X Leopard auch für Laptops einfacher zu benutzen sein, da der Rechner hierzu nicht an ein Netzwerkkabel angeschlossen sein muss (Datenübertragung per WLAN). Apple TV 2.0 (kostenloses Firmware Update): unterstützt HD Auflösung, mit Dolby 5.1, kann Filme direkt mieten (ohne Computer mit iTunes), kann aber selbstverständlich die Daten via iTunes synchronisieren. MacBook Air: Das dünnste Notebook der Welt, es passt in einen Briefumschlag. 0.16 bis 0.76 Zoll dick, 13.3" Wide Screen LED-beleuchtetes Display, iSight Kamera, multi-touch Trackpad, beleuchtete MacBook-Tastatur, 80GB 1.8" Festplatte (wie beim iPod classic), optional 64GB SSD (Solid State Disk, Flashspeicher). | Keynote news from Macworld Expo San Francisco: While we still have to wait until next month for the iPhone SDK, Apple at least ships a new handy firmware: Version 1.1.3 includes Maps with location (using cellphone-tower signal triangulation (from Google) combined with WiFi hotspots (from Skyhook Wireless), not GPS, thus not so precise), Webclips (internet bookmarks as icons on the home screen, up to 9 of them), Lyrics, send SMS to more than one recipient at a time, and a customizable Home screen. | Apples Mac Pro und XServe mit neuen Prozessoren: Apple spendiert dem Mac Pro eine Leistungsspritze: Standardmässig kommt der Rechner mit zwei 2.8 GHz QuadCore Xeon Prozessoren (2x 4 Kerne à 2.8 GHz), optional sind ein einzelner 2.8 GHz QuadCore Xeon (1x 4 Kerne), zwei 3.0 GHz QuadCore oder zwei 3.2 GHz QuadCore Prozessoren erhältlich, maximal stehen also 2x 4x 3.2 GHz = 25.6 GHz Rechenpower zum Abruf bereit. Die verbauten Prozessoren entsprechen der Xeon 5400 Serie ("Harpertown", 0.045µm), die intern auf zwei DualCore Dies baut, welche je über 6MB onchip L2 Cache verfügen, pro CPU also 12MB, in den Rechnern mit zwei QuadCore Prozessoren zusammen 24MB L2 Zwischenspeicher. Pro Prozessor steht je ein 1.6 GHz schneller Front Side Bus zur Verfügung; standardmässig sind 2x 1GB RAM installiert (800MHz DDR2 fully-buffered PC2-6400F DIMMs), dies kann jedoch auf bis zu 8x 4GB ausgebaut werden (32GB). Ab Werk kommt der Mac Pro mit einer 320GB SerialATA Festplatte (7200rpm), über die vier Drive Bays kann dies bis 4x 1TB aufgestockt werden.

| Apples Mac Pro and XServe get newest processors: Apple has beefed up its Mac Pro series: By default it comes with two 2.8 GHz QuadCore Xeon processors (2x 4 cores à 2.8 GHz), optionally you can get it with a single 2.8 GHz QuadCore Xeon (1x 4 cores), two 3.0 GHz QuadCore or two 3.2 GHz QuadCore processors, resulting in a maximum of 2x 4x 3.2 GHz = 25.6 GHz of computing power. The CPUs are from the Xeon 5400 series ("Harpertown", 0.045µm), internally based on two DualCore dies, each of them hosting 6MB onchip L2 cache, per CPU that makes 12MB, in machines with two QuadCores this sums up to 24MB L2 buffer. Per processor there's an independent 1.6 GHz fast Front Side Bus; by default 2x 1GB memory is installed (800MHz DDR2 fully-buffered PC2-6400F DIMMs), upgradeable to 8x 4GB (32GB). As preconfigured the new Mac Pro comes with a 320GB SerialATA harddisk (7200rpm), but using all the four drive bays it can store up to 4x 1TB.
Concerning the graphics processor, there are several options available: By default an ATI Radeon HD 2600 XT with 256MB of video memory is installed (with two dual-link DVI ports), optionally you can get an NVIDIA GeForce 8800 GT with 512MB or an NVIDIA Quadro FX 5600 with 1.5GB memory and a 3D stereo port (both also with two dual-link DVI ports), or instead of the ATI graphics card you can install two of them, or three or four -- using four cards with two (dual-link) ports you can run up to eight 30" screens in parallel. | Intel stellt 45nm Mobilprozessoren vor: Intel hat eine Reihe neuer Mobilprozessoren vorgestellt: Die neuen DualCores nennen sich immer noch "Core 2 Duo", basieren aber auf dem neuen "Penryn" Kern (0.045µm) mit 50% mehr onchip L2 Cache, nämlich 6 oder 3MB (4 bzw. 2MB waren es beim Vorgängermodell "Merom"). Alle neuen CPUs sind für eine maximale Leistungsaufnahme von 35 Watt ausgelegt (TDP, Thermal Design Power), lediglich das Spitzenmodell, der 2.8 GHz schnelle Core 2 Extreme X9000 (US$ 851), genehmigt sich bis zu 44 Watt. Neben den beiden 2.5 und 2.6 GHz schnellen Core 2 Duos (US$ 316 bzw. 530) gibt es noch die zwei kostengünstigere neue Chips mit 2.1 und 2.4 GHz, die nur über 3 statt 6MB L2 Cache verfügen (US$ 209 bzw. 241). | 45nm Mobile processors from Intel: Intel has introduced a new series of Mobile processors: The new DualCores are still called "Core 2 Duo", but they're based on the new "Penryn" core (0.045µm) with 50% more onchip L2 cache, that's 6 or 3MB (4 or 2MB in the predecessor "Merom"). All new CPUs are designed for a maximum power consumption of 35 Watts (TDP, Thermal Design Power), except for the top end model, the 2.8 GHz Core 2 Extreme X9000 (US$ 851), which consumes up to 44 Watts. There are 2.5 and 2.6 GHz Core 2 Duos available (US$ 316 and 530), and two cheaper chips with half the L2 cache size (3MB) running at 2.1 and 2.4 GHz (US$ 209 and 241). All five Mobile processors support Intels current 800 MHz Front Side Bus (FSB800), they're compatible with the "Santa Rosa" platform. (Intel) |
